The Story Behind the Restoration

February 28, 2026

Some paintings have a story beyond what's on the canvas. This is one of them.

The Original

A few years ago, I painted this piece for my brother Imre. It was a gift — one of those paintings where everything just clicked. The colors, the mood, the atmosphere. He hung it in his apartment, and there it stayed.

The Accident

Then came the cleaning lady incident. I won't go into details, but let's just say the painting didn't survive the encounter unscathed. When Imre showed me the damage, my heart sank. But then something else kicked in: the challenge.

The Restoration

Could I fix it? Could I bring it back? Restoration is different from creation. You're not making something new — you're trying to recover what was lost while respecting the original work.

The video above shows the process. What you can't see is the careful analysis that came first: understanding the damage, matching the original colors, planning each brushstroke.

The Result

Today, the painting hangs in Imre's apartment again. The damage is invisible. But now it carries an extra story — one of accidents, restoration, and the bond between brothers.
