Creating "Moonlit Harbor"
February 20, 2026
Night scenes have always fascinated me. The way light plays against darkness, the reflections on water — there's something magical about it.
The Vision
I wanted to capture that moment when the moon breaks through clouds and illuminates the sea. A lone sailboat, a lighthouse on the rocks — timeless elements that evoke a sense of calm and adventure.
The Palette
Deep Prussian blues form the foundation. The key is layering — darker values in the shadows, then building up to those bright highlights where the moonlight catches the water. The green accent lights add a touch of mystery.
The Technique
Working on furniture board allows for quick, confident strokes. The smooth surface lets paint glide, which is perfect for those sweeping water reflections. The whole piece came together in a few hours — that's the beauty of this technique.
